And in a few of our test workouts, the earbuds’ data didn’t transfer to Apple Health. Combined with manually entered data in Apple’s Health app (such as height, weight, gender, and age), these sensors help Apple estimate metrics like steps, distance, and calories burned. I found that the AirPods Pro 3 tracked these basic metrics fairly accurately. For example, counting a known 1-mile distance as 0.97 mile, and coming within the range I expected for estimated calories burned doing a test workout. We also assess its durability based on the materials it is made of and inform of any scuffs and scratches our fitness tracker sustained during testing.
While the Oura Ring 4 accurately recorded my heart rate and movement during testing, its workout and activity tracking fell short. It did a decent job at detecting the type of exercise I performed—whether that be walking, HIIT or pickleball, for example—but its fitness insights were less comprehensive than others I tested. It functions as more of a retroactive fitness tracker, so if you’re wanting to gauge real-time performance mid-workout, I recommend more of a true fitness tracker, like the Garmin Venu 3. If you wear an Apple Watch SE for sleep along with daily tracking activities, you will have to charge it at some point during the day. In many cases you don’t have to take it off for more than an hour with faster charging speeds. But it’s a bit of a nuisance, particularly considering that most other fitness trackers get you several days’ worth of use before needing a full charge.

F-Droid is recommended for users who want safer, more open-source options that replicate popular applications, but not the Play Store, for mainstream gaming and commercial use. Some people prefer to download trial versions of certain apps first, just to see how well they run before switching fully to another store.
